Nicola Dewhurst is a children’s author who believes in the power of storytelling to shape young minds and hearts. Based in the UAE, Nicola’s journey into writing began with her deep-rooted passion for teaching. As an educator, she spent years reading picture books to children. When she experienced the joy and curiosity these stories ignited, it inspired her to create her own tales that are designed to both entertain and educate.
Nicola’s writing journey was not without its challenges. In 2022, during a period of illness, she found herself with time to reflect and heal. That pause from life gave her time to turn those ideas into stories that were emerging in her mind. She found a purpose in something that was her passion.
Writing came naturally to her, and she soon found herself crafting stories that spoke to the receptive minds of young children. What makes her stand out from other children’s authors is her ability to present important life lessons through engaging stories. The way she mixes humour into her narratives makes even complex themes accessible to young readers. She enjoys writing children’s fiction as it gives her a chance to blend imagination with reality.
She draws inspiration from renowned authors like Julia Donaldson, Eric Carle, and Michael Rosen. Her debut book, Moany Dad, is a clear indication of her ability to turn life’s challenges into opportunities for growth. The story is told from a child’s perspective and explores the theme of relocation. This topic is pretty close to Nicola’s heart, as she herself has experienced the process of moving and adapting to new environments.
She aims to help children see change not as a burden but as an adventure filled with new experiences and opportunities. With each story she writes, Nicola hopes to create a lasting impact on her young readers, encouraging them to approach life’s changes with curiosity, courage, and a sense of humour.
